An informal letter is the one written/addressed to your friends/pals. It usually includes the normal conversational ways of addressing your friends/pals. In this lesson, The FRENCH MASTER GH will help you to write an informal letter in French using important but simple tips that need to be considered in writing this type of letter in French. The major difference between an informal letter in English and that of French is the layout and some few terms as listed in the tips below:
Tip 1: The address of your correspondent should be written at the top left corner of the paper.
Tip 2: The date should be written at the top right corner of the paper and adjacent to the address. The date should include your location; I mean where you are writing letter from.
Tip 3: The greeting should be written a line below the address and followed by a comma. Consider using the following terms when writing the greetings: Cher ami (for male) / Chère amie (for female), Très cher ami / Très chère amie, Bonjour John, Edem, Juliet, etc….. (you can use any of them).
Tip 4: The introduction of your letter should be written a line below the greeting. Consider using the following terms in order to write a good introduction: 1. J’ai le plaisir de t’écrire cette lettre………….. (State the reason for which you are writing the letter) 2. Je t’écris cette lettre pour………..………….. (State the reason for which you are writing the letter) 3. C’est avec regret que…………..………….. (Break a news for which you are writing the letter) 4. Je suis content de t’envoyer…………..………….. (State the reason for which you are writing the letter) 5. Tout le plaisir est pour moi de t’écrire cette lettre pour………….………….. (State the reason for which you are writing the letter) 6. C’est avec un Cœur gai que je t’annonce…………………….. (Break a good news for which you are writing the letter)
Tip 5 : The conclusion part of your letter should include any of the following statements : 1. Je te souhaite bien choses et j’espère ta réponse très bientôt. 2. J’espère te lire très bientôt. 3. Mes meilleurs souhaits. etc…..
Tip 6 : The subscription should include the following : 1. Mes sincères amitiés, (write down your name below it) 2. Ton ami(e), (write down your name below it) 3. Ton ami (e) sincères, (write down your name below it).
