ALL ABOUT GAFT VOLTA/OTI

G.A.F.T. is the acronym for Ghana Association of French Teachers. It is the oldest teacher association founded in the whole of West Africa. The association is founded in 1958 by a group of French teachers who felt the need to come together under one common umbrella to have a powerful voice at the national level as well as take care of their welfare. The Ghana Association of French Teachers is affiliated to the following organizations and partners:

  1. Fédération Internationale des Professeurs de Français (FIPF)
  2. Association des Professeurs de Français d’Afrique et de l’Océan Indien (APFAOI)
  3. Organization Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF)
  4. Réseau des Centres de Français Langue Étrangère d’Afrique (RECFLEA)

Its main objectives include the following:

  1. Facilitation of training programs and the training of trainers and teachers.
  2. Promotion of exchange programs for teachers, students and researchers.
  3. Formulation of policies for teaching, learning and research and lobby for government and international partners’ support.
  4. Facilitation of trans-border cooperation in teaching French as a foreign language.
  5. Promotion of exchange of information and research findings among members.
  6. Promotion of the member’s welfare through the enhancement of their professional development.

WHO CAN BE A MEMBER OF GAFT?

  1. FRENCH TEACHERS
  2. FOUNDING MEMBERS
  3. ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
  4. HONORARY MEMBERS
  5. FRIENDS OF G.A.F.T.
  • FRENCH TEACHERS: French Teachers in both public and private schools teaching at the Primary, JHS, SHS and Tertiary levels are eligible to be members of the association. They must however be active members. Being an active member means that you must be paying your monthly dues of GHS 10.00 , actively participate in the activities organized by the association, believe in the association’s aims and vision as stated in the GAFT constitution.
  • FOUNDING MEMBERS: They constitute the originators of the association’s philosophy and are automatic members of the association.
  • ASSOCIATE MEMBERS: An associate member is someone who is not a French teacher but uses the French language as his or her medium of expression for his or her day-to-day activities and helps promote the French language in his or her line of duty and wishes to be part of the association. This membership can also be conferred on an individual, a group or an association.
  • HONORARY MEMBERS: This membership is conferred on individuals, groups or associations GAFT deems important for the progress of the association. These individuals, groups or associations mostly provide financial, social and other supports to the association.
  • FRIENDS OF GAFT: This membership is conferred on staffs of organizations and associations G.A.F.T. who always contribute their quota for the progress of the association.
